The Counts of Sulz
In a document of 1092 the name Alewicus – comes de Sulzo (Count of Sulz) is mentioned.
Presumably this noble family emigrates between the 8th and 10th century from Franconia to the upper Neckar region. Count Alewicus is assumed to be the founder and name provider of the predecessing building of the Albeck Castle.
Vicar Köhler wrote:
"Albeck, in a document of the year 1517 still named Alweka, such as Alwigs Castle, presumably received the name from a regional count who has rebuilt this ancient Roman castle which had been destroyed by the Alemannians."

The construction lacks the keep which was typical for the 11th/12th century. However, due to the strong surrounding walls and the favourable elevated location the castle meets the military requirements. Also, the Great Hall fulfills the prestige of the aristocracy.

Un document mentionne en 1092 le nom de Alewicus – comes de Sulzo (comte de Sulz).
Cette vieille famille noble de Franconie s’établit dans le Haut Neckar probablement dans la période du 8ème au 10ème siècle. Le comte Alewicus est considéré comme le fondateur du bâtiment antérieur au château d’Albeck.
Le pasteur Köhler raconte :
"Albeck, nommé Alweka dans un document de 1517, peut être assimilé à Alwigsburg, et tient probablement son nom du comte de la région qui a fait reconstruire ce château, édifié auparavant par les Romains et détruit par les Alamans."

Le complexe ne présente pas le donjon, pourtant typique du 11/12ème siècle mais répond toutefois aux exigences militaires de l’époque du fait de son emplacement sur un éperon rocheux et de son enceinte fortifiée.
Le logis est spacieux pour l’époque et répond aux besoins de la noblesse d’antan.
